Professional Biography

Professor Nhamo Mashavira is a distinguished Associate Professor and seasoned administrator with a formidable eighteen-year tenure in Zimbabwean state universities. Of this period, he has dedicated thirteen years to administration, mastering the complexities of institutional governance while maintaining a high-calibre academic profile. He was the founding Chairperson of the department of human resource management at Great Zimbabwe University, where he also served as acting Deputy Dean and senate member. His leadership is defined by a rare duality of scholarly depth and administrative excellence.

With a very prolific HR consultancy background, Professor Mashavira has bridged the gap between theory and practice. He is the founding director for Sixth Sense Consulting Pvt Ltd, an HR consultancy firm. He has become a cornerstone of institutional reform, notably serving as the chief consultant for Zimbabwean State Universities in the execution of the Castellion job evaluation method. His consultancy footprint extends deeply into local governance, parastatals, higher and tertiary education, where he has spearheaded high-level recruitment and transformative HR strategies for city municipalities, rural district councils, and various corporate entities. With a PhD-level education and a track record of consulting for some donor agencies, Professor Mashavira offers a sophisticated, multi-stakeholder perspective.

His academic profile is built on a foundation of rigorous research and extensive mentorship. Professor Mashavira has authored over 55 peer-reviewed publications, including influential book chapters, and his literary contributions extend to impactful articles in national newspapers making him a visible thought leader in the public eye. He has a proven track record of academic excellence, having presented at over ten international conferences and steered numerous PhD candidates to success. At the intersection of HR strategy and organizational theory, his research explores the black box connecting HR practices to firm-level outcomes. His research agenda is deeply rooted in the pursuit of decent work and how evolving HR constructs either mediate or moderate performance within the volatilities of modern day businesses. Beyond his own research, Professor Mashavira is a trusted authority in academic governance. He has served as an examiner for doctoral theses at both local and international levels and is frequently called upon to lead the rigorous assessments of candidates for associate professorship, ensuring the highest standards of excellence in global higher education. He serves as an external examiner for Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences and has been appointed Adjunct Professor at the University of KwaZulu- Natal South Africa.

Professor Mashavira is an Elder and Evangelist in the Seventh-day Adventist church and is currently a Council member for the Adventist College of Education in Gweru. He served two separate terms as an Executive Committee member of the Central Zimbabwe Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in Gweru. In 2025, he served as the Masvingo Urban Inter-District Chairperson, presiding over a specific district while also leading the council of chairpersons from various other districts within the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the city. He has four daughters with his wife, Esther.
